Suspected hitmen killed in shootout with police

Two suspected hitmen were killed during a shootout with police in the Mahlabatini area on Wednesday (November 6). Police received information about two suspects driving a red Volkswagen Polo, allegedly on their way to kill a taxi owner. The police intercepted the car and ordered him to stop.
The vehicle did stop, but two passengers who got out immediately began shooting at the police. The officers returned fire and the two suspected attackers were killed. Police recovered three firearms.
It was later discovered that one of the firearms had been stolen in January from the Masekane Game Reserve in Mtunzini.
Police spokesman Colonel Robert Netshiunda commented: “No officers sustained any injuries during the incident and the firearms recovered will be subjected to ballistic testing to determine if they are linked to any crime scenes in and around the province.”
