The Metis violin is a style of violin playing developed by Métis North America, after the instrument was introduced by Scottish and French-Canadian traders in the 1800s, according to a publication in Canadian Journal of Local Studies.

It originated in the Red River region when Audette first played a video of his daughter, showing them performing the Red River Jig, which Odette describes as “the anthem of the Red River Métis people here in Canada.”

And, he added, he performed for his daughter on his grandfather’s violin, which Carriere bought in 1955.

“We never imagined it would get such a response,” Audette said of his daughter’s video.

As for whether they expect Adeline to follow in her father’s footsteps as a musician, Odette said: “We will continue surrounding her with music and dancingand if she continues to show interest in this, we will definitely support her in any way we can.”
