Josh Brolin remembers ‘American Gangster’ during fight with Denzel Washington

Josh Brolin remembers how he almost got into a fight with Denzel Washington on the set of the film American gangster.

The actor appeared on In detail with Graham Bensinger podcast to discuss his new memoir, From under the truckand shared an intense memory from the set of the Ridley Scott film. American gangster.

In the 2007 crime drama, Brolin played a detective and Denzel Washington played the notorious drug lord Frank Lucas.

During the interview, Brolin recalled a tense moment with Washington that nearly escalated into a fight while filming the film.

“Yeah, we almost got into a fight,” Brolin said, explaining that he spent most of his time on set working with Russell Crowe. However, the few scenes he shared with Washington, who portrayed a ruthless gangster, brought an extra level of intensity.

“Denzel was a little late to filming and there was a whole story there,” Brolin said.

“And then he showed me the lines… he didn’t change any of my lines, but he kind of changed the structure of it. He said, “I think I’ll put this here and that there.” But he wasn’t really looking at me.”

“I tried to remember the structure and then we rehearsed,” he continued.

“There weren’t that many lines, mostly mine. And I have to be very confident in myself. It’s Denzel Washington, dude. It’s, like, not easy – you’re just some actor who’s being auditioned to see if he’s real or not. And I forgot the line.

Brolin asked Washington to remind him of his line, but he did so while placing his hand on Equalizer star shoulder.

“And he hit me on the arm and said, ‘Don’t ever fucking touch me,’” Brolin recalls.

“And I thought, ‘Damn it, I’m going to break up with Denzel Washington.’ This is crazy.” We are no longer actors – at least in my opinion. In his opinion, he was simply doing his job. He was that guy. It was Frank Lucas, period. But I didn’t know. And then we lived through this moment.”

Brolin further recalled: “I said, ‘Are you okay?’ He said, “Yes. You?’ I said, “Yes. Can I have my line? He said, “Go ahead.” It’s like he said what he had to say.”

But Brolin now says there are no differences and the two actors are “getting along very well now” as the interaction was just a temporary heated moment.
