NFL teams may want to do whatever it takes to draft Colorado defensive end Sheader Sanders if Mel Kiper Jr.’s assessment is correct.

After all, the ESPN analyst compared the caller to Tom Brady, Joe Burrow and Jared Goff on Thursday (7:18 mark):

“I will say Sheader will remind people a little bit of Joe Burrow, a little bit of Jared Goff, a little bit of Tom Brady,” Kiper said. “And I say this when Brady came out of Michigan, not what he became, the greatest of all time, but coming out. What did you see? so many hits for Colorado it’s a wonder he’s still standing… Smart, great game mind, unflappable… Who knows if he’ll be any of that.

While Kiper made it clear that he compared Sanders to Brady, Burrow and Goff coming out of college, those names will continue to attract attention.

All Brady did was become the greatest player of all time, with seven Super Bowl rings on his resume. And Burrow and Goff are on the short list of the best quarterbacks in today’s NFL, with the former going to one Super Bowl and the latter taking his Detroit Lions to a run for the Lombardi Trophy this season.

Sanders has improved his team this year, with Colorado going abysmal 4-8 in 2023 and going 8-2 in 2024. The team also controls its own destiny in the race for the Big 12 title and a likely spot in the College Football Playoff if it can. can take care of the business in the future.

If the Buffaloes are going to do that, Sanders will undoubtedly need big numbers, as he and two-way star Travis Hunter have put the team on their backs several times this season.

Sanders completed 72.9 percent of his passes for 3,222 yards, 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions and scored four more. He’s had multiple touchdowns in each of his last eight games while playing behind a less-than-stellar offensive line at times.

NFL Scouting B/R rated him the No. 3 overall pick and the first quarterback selected in its latest rankings. project layout earlier this month, highlighting his ball placement and ability to play from the pocket.

The spotlight on Sanders will only get brighter as Colorado potentially continues to push toward a CFP spot, so he could further solidify his spot in the upcoming NFL Draft by excelling at this point.
