Women speak out after surviving shooting on the 215 Freeway in San Bernardino

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) — Three Hesperia women survive car-to-car collision shooting on the 215 Freeway, and two of them are now speaking out about the terrifying ordeal.

The incident happened early Saturday morning in the southbound lanes near Devore. Their trip took an abrupt turn when their car came under fire.

The driver, who spoke to Eyewitness News but asked not to be named publicly for safety reasons, described the shocking moment.

“When they first fired at my car, I never thought there were gunshots. I thought my car was broken,” she said.

But it quickly became clear that her car was riddled with three bullets, one of which hit the upper leg of her passenger sitting in the back.

“She just calmly said, ‘They hit me.’ It was strange, I think if she had panicked, I probably would have panicked even more,” the driver said.

The women were heading to a church event in Madera around 4 a.m. when they noticed two cars following them. According to a passenger sitting in front, the headlights of one vehicle came on.

“They were turning the headlights on and off and we didn’t think anything of it until our friend said they actually hit her,” said a passenger sitting in front.

After the shooting, the women drove to a nearby gas station and called 911.

First responders arrived and the injured woman was taken away by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, which they believe was unprovoked.

“I don’t know why we were attacked. I just feel like it’s scary to drive now. I see the car and I’m just scared, I don’t know what they’re up to,” the driver said.

The San Bernardino CHP office is asking anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
