Texas Comptroller’s Office Announces More Than 0 Million in Assistance to State Law Enforcement Agencies

AUSTIN, Texas (KAWS) – Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar’s office announced today that it has awarded approximately $225 million statewide this year through the Rural Law Enforcement Grant Program.

The program aims to enable small Texas communities to recruit and retain officers by providing funds to increase wages and make hiring easier.

“Many rural law enforcement agencies and prosecutors lack the resources needed to attract and retain personnel or purchase much-needed safety equipment, and this program fills that gap. I am touched that the Legislature has entrusted this responsibility to my agency,” Hegar said, adding, “These men and women are the backbone of rural communities throughout the great state of Texas, and it is important that we make sure they have what they need. to keep Texans safe.”

For law enforcement agencies and prosecutors whose fiscal year begins Jan. 1, Hegar urged that applications for funds be submitted by the Jan. 31, 2025 deadline. Law enforcement agencies in counties with populations under 300,000 are eligible for the grant.
