Social Security completely changes December benefits

Social Security completely changes December benefits

Every month Social Security Administration provides more than 72 million payments per month to eligible retired workers, individuals with disabilities, and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients on certain payment dates. However, in some months this regular schedule may change due to holidays or weekends. For example, in December there will be three important changes to the regular schedule that all beneficiaries should be aware of. If you are currently eligible for Retirement, Survivor and Disability Insurance (RSDI), or SSI, learn more about upcoming payment dates here.

Social Security is completely changing December payment dates.

The SSA typically makes five rounds of payments each month, so all beneficiaries can receive payments to cover their daily living expenses, and in some cases, e.g. SSI recipientsto make ends meet or fight poverty. According to this monthly chart, The SSA begins delivering payments to SSI recipients on the first day of the month. They are followed by RSDI beneficiaries who applied for benefits before May 1997, on the third day of the month. Once these two payments are delivered, the federal agency will pay the remaining RSDI beneficiaries on the second, third and fourth Wednesday of the month.

However, there will be three major changes to the regular schedule in December that beneficiaries should be aware of. First-time SSI recipients will not receive regular benefits on the first day of the month because it falls on a weekend; therefore, their December benefits will arrive on Friday, November 29th. In addition, these same recipients will receive January benefits on December 31st, since January 1st falls on New Year’s Eve. Finally, RSDI Recipients those born between the 21st and 31st will not receive regular benefits on the fourth Wednesday of the month due to Christmas Eve; rather, they will receive their benefits on Tuesday, December 24th. To avoid any misunderstanding, we would like to inform you of all payment dates for the next month:

How much money will all Social Security recipients receive in December?

December brought millions in payments to eligible recipients, but the amount will vary depending on each beneficiary’s circumstances and the requirements of the program for which they are eligible. For example, those eligible for pension benefits must first reach full retirement agework experience and have paid Social Security taxes for at least 10 years. Additionally, if beneficiaries are eligible for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), in addition to meeting Social Security tax requirements, they must prove that they have a disability that prevents them from carrying out Significant Gainful Activities (SGA) required by SSA. Finally, recipients applying for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) must meet income and resource requirements.

Because each program has its own unique requirements and payment amounts, we would like to share with you all confirmed payment amounts for this year. Also, remember that these Social Security benefit amounts already include a 3.2% increase over the cost of living adjustment (COLA) for 2024.
