Kenya cancels Adani airport deal amid US bribery allegations | N18G

Kenyan President William Ruto has announced the cancellation of a procurement process that would have given India’s Adani Group control of Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The project included a 30-year lease to expand the airport, including upgrades to a second runway and passenger terminal. The cancellation follows US authorities’ indictment of Adani Group founder Gautam Adani on charges of bribing Indian officials to the tune of $265 million. The Adani Group has denied the allegations and vowed to take legal action. A separate $736 million power transmission contract with Adani remains unchanged, and Kenya’s energy minister says there was no corruption involved in its awarding.
