“…I would plead insanity and get 7 years in prison.”

In her memoir, Cher: A Memoir (Part One), which was released recently, Cher made a shocking revelation in which she revealed that her ex-husband Sonny Bono once considered killing her. For the uninitiated, the singer had a difficult and tumultuous marriage to the late singer and politician. She vividly recalled one disturbing occasion when Bono admitted to her that he wanted to kill her.

In her memoirs, Cher admitted that she felt very unhappy in her life. wedding with Sonny Bono that she also planned to commit suicide by jumping from the balcony of her Las Vegas hotel room. The “Believe” singer mentioned in her memoir how she told Sonny she wanted to sleep with Bill, their band’s guitarist. She didn’t mean any of it; it was just a ploy to get away from Bono.

Describing what happened, Cher wrote in her memoirs“The silence was deafening. Then (Sonny) asked, “How long do you think it will take you?”, to which she replied, “Two hours.” Soon, Sonny Bono left the “After All” singer with Bill, and she cried all the time on the latter’s shoulders.

Sonny Bono and Cher, who starred together on their show The Sonny And Cher Comedy Hour, eventually broke up. However, Bono had a condition: the “If I Could Turn Back Time” singer would have to stay with him for the week to maintain his public image. The singer recounted in her memoir how her ex-husband once told her: “You know, after you left with Bill that night in the Sahara, I seriously thought about throwing you off our balcony.”

Cher further added, “He laughed a little bit about it, and so did I. What he told me was crazy.” The singer then recalled Sonny Bono telling her: “He continued: “I decided that I would confess to insanity, like Spade Cooley, and get seven years in prison before I was released. Then I’ll get a book deal and my own show.” However, in response, she admitted to him that she herself was thinking about jumping from the balcony. After her split from Bono, Cher married the late singer Greg Allman, but the couple separated in 1979. She is said to be currently in a relationship with rapper Alexander A.E. Edwards.
