A tiger roaming openly in the bushes near a residential area in Assam was attacked by locals. Having noticed the wild animal, frightened people threw stones and bricks at it, as a result of which it was seriously injured. During the animal-human encounter, the tiger (identified as a female) suffered a traumatic brain injury, lost vision in one eye and continued to bleed from the nose. The attack with sharp objects left the animal in critical condition.

The disturbing incident was reported from Kaliabor in Nagaon district of Assam.

While some reports mentioned that the locals violently attacked the tiger in fear, others indicated that it was armed forest officers who attacked the wildlife after the tiger’s presence in the area caused panic among the residents.

Have forest officials thrown a stone?

Armed forest officials pelted stones to drive away a tiger that recently ventured into human habitat at Kaliabor in Assam, Pratidin Time, a news channel based in Guwahati, reported, sharing footage showing the animal running to protect itself from stone pelting. While fleeing, the tiger fell into a pond.

However, Northeast Live TV noted that police and forest authorities arrived at the spot only after the attack began, intending to bring the situation under control and stop the attack on wild animals.

“Demons with a Human Face”

Journalist Nandan Bordoloi shared a video of the tiger, noting that “the tiger completely lost sight in one eye due to being stoned by demons with human faces.”

Tiger may be moved to Assam Zoo

Further details of the incident suggest that the tiger was taken to the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation Center for treatment.

“We cannot release him, so he may be shifted to the Assam zoo,” Bhaskar Chowdhury, a doctor who treated the tiger, told local media, noting that the animal is blind in one eye.
