Raytheon awarded 0 million contract to Navy to overhaul Aegis combat system

RTX business Raytheon received two US Navy contracts costing $360.4 million to repair, replace and upgrade parts in two of the 13 major subsystems of the Aegis weapon system.

The Defense Department said Thursday that the awards cover support for two major Aegis subsystems: the MK99 fire control system and the U.S. Navy’s Joint Electronics Type Designation System for water/surface ship, radar, and surveillance and control transmitter arrays.

Raytheon will oversee inventory management, warehousing and delivery response time efforts. The vendor will perform work in Virginia and Massachusetts.

One of the two awards is a $186 million purchase order issued under a previously awarded performance-based contract. Work on the sole source requirement, covering 160 parts, will continue until December 2026.

The other contract, covering 365 parts, is worth approximately $174.6 million and is expected to be awarded by November 2029.

What is the Aegis weapon system?

Aegis is a weapons control system equipped with a phased array radar that can perform search, tracking and missile guidance functions.

At the heart of the platform is a computer command and control element designed to conduct simultaneous operations against surface, air, anti-submarine and other multi-role threats.
