The embodiment of a combination of nature and modern conveniences

The Canmore Mountains have called Doan Galarneau for as long as he can remember.

The 40-year-old business owner grew up skiing in the Alberta Rockies. Wanting to spend every weekend there during the winter made the 4.5-hour trek from the family home in Hanna bearable. Then, as a young man living in Calgary, mountain biking in the Bow Valley became his passion. He then decided to get married in Canmore at one of his favorite places, the Silvertip Resort.

Three years later, he and his wife, Jill, bought a townhouse in Silvertip, right on the golf course, and spent three out of four weekends a month there. Their children, aged eight, five and two, already know how to ski.

Resisting Canmore’s siren call proved futile, and now Galarneau is building a permanent home in Silvertip in the community of Mountain Tranquility.

“The intention is full-time. The children will go to school there. Having spent time here in Silvertip for the last eight years, my love for this place has only grown,” he says.

Galarneau chose a home in Mountain Tranquility with views of Mount Rundle on one side, the town of Canmore across the valley on the other and nothing but beautiful alpine forest behind it. It is being developed by Mint Projects, an approved and inspected developer of Stone Creek Resorts, which will build its six-bedroom, 6,000-square-foot home on the 6th hole of Silvertip Golf Course, which presents unique challenges and opportunities.

“These are not flat sites. There are certain topographies that need to be included in architecture. We had to have a very good knowledge of the landscape and strict architectural rules that ultimately resulted in a great product. One possibility is that each house here will have character,” he explains.

His two-story home, which will be completed by spring 2026, will have four bedrooms on the second floor, a second master bedroom on the first floor and a basement bedroom with at least four queen-size bunk beds.

“I think we’ll have a lot of companies,” he says.

The color palette will be earth tones, the windows will be as large as possible, and the first floor will be built around a wonderful stone fireplace.

“We burn a lot of wood in the mountains,” Galarneau says happily.

Guy Turcotte, president and CEO of Stone Creek Resorts, says Mountain Tranquility Place represents Silvertip’s latest subdivision of historic single-family homes.

“Several Silvertip residents have personally told me that they are proud to live in the most beautiful community in Canada,” he says.

Galarneau loves his current home on the Elbow River in downtown Calgary, but as beautiful as it is, he’s confident his future home in Silvertip will be much nicer.

“I like to play golf once a week, maybe twice. But for me, being able to wake up on a Wednesday morning, make a couple of business calls and spend half a day skiing at Lake Louise is very good from a proximity standpoint,” he says.
