Trump appoints Fox News correspondent Nesheiwat as Surgeon General

president-elect Donald Trump said he is naming Fox News medical contributor Jeanette Nesheiwat as his surgeon general, elevating another conservative network personality to a top role in his new administration.

“Doctor. Nesheiwat is a strong advocate and strong advocate for preventive medicine and public health,” Trump said in a statement. “She is committed to ensuring Americans have access to affordable, quality health care and believes in empowering people to take charge of their health so they can live longer, healthier lives.”

The Office of the Surgeon General is responsible for providing Americans with scientific information about health care options and how to reduce their risk of disease, and is best known for issuing warnings about products such as cigarettes. She is expected to work in her new role alongside Robert F. Kennedy Jr.a former presidential candidate who has vowed to overhaul the nation’s health care system.

Nesheiwat joins weekend host of ‘Fox & Friends’ Pete Hegsethwhom Trump chose to lead the Pentagon, Tulsi Gabbardformer Fox News contributor selected as Director of National Intelligence, and Mike Huckabeeformer Fox News host as top administration officials associated with the network.

Nesheiwat led a series of additional senior hires that Trump announced on Friday, including:

  • Former Congressman Dave Weldon as director Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The agency has been at the center of controversy over Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
  • Marty MacariJohns Hopkins University surgeon known for questioning medical orthodoxy was chosen to lead US Food and Drug Administration.
  • Sebastian Gorkaa conservative commentator who briefly served in the first Trump administration before leaving over security clearance issues has been named senior director for counterterrorism.
  • Alex Wong, who served as Trump’s deputy special envoy for North Korea, has been named the new national security adviser’s top deputy. Mike Waltz.
