Live 2024 Election Results Updates: Vote counting begins at 8 a.m.; NDA against INDIA in Maharashtra and Jharkhand

2024 Election Result Live Updates: The counting of votes for the Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly elections will begin soon. The results will decide the fate of Mahayuti and Maha Vikas Aghadi in Maharashtra. The results will also determine whether Hemant Soren gets a second term in Jharkhand.

On November 20, Maharashtra voted for 288 seats in one phase. Voting for 81 seats in Jharkhand was held in two phases on November 13 and 20. The Election Commission of India will officially begin counting votes at 8 am for both the states.

Mahayuti vs MVA in Maharashtra

Competition in Maharashtra is bipolar. In Maharashtra, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Mahayuti Alliance has been fighting to retain power while the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) aims to wrest control from the ruling alliance in the state.

Mahayuti comprises the BJP, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, Ajit Pawar-led NCP, JSS, RSVA and RYSP. The MVA included the Congress, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) and Sharad Pawar’s NCP-SP and PWPI.

What happened in the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections?

In the 2019 assembly elections, the BJP-Shiv Sena (undivided) won a majority. The alliance did not last long and the Shiv Sena walked out of it, causing political unrest in the state. In the last five years, the state has had three different chief ministers: Devendra Fadnavis of the BJP, Uddhav Thackeray of the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Eknath Shinde of the Shiv Sena (SHS).

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP lost ground in Maharashtra. She won only 9 of the 28 seats she contested, down from 23 of the 25 seats she contested in the 2019 general election.

What did the Maharashtra exit polls predict?

Most of the exit polls gave Mahayuti an edge in Maharashtra. The exit poll conducted by People’s Pulse gave Mahayuti 175-195 seats and MVA only 85-112 seats. However, a poll conducted by Electoral Edge predicted a victory for the MVA with 150 seats, giving 121 seats to the BJP-led Mahayuti. Lokshahi Rudra predicted a hand-to-hand fight between Mahayuti and MBA.

Who will win in Jharkhand (NDA vs INDIA)?

In Jharkhand, Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s JMM and his INDIA bloc allies are fighting against the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The INDIA bloc allies in Jharkhand are JMM, Congress, CPI(ML)L and RJD. The NDA includes the BJP, AJSUP, JD(U) and the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas).

What did the Jharkhand exit polls predict?

The Matrize Exit poll predicted 42-47 seats for the NDA and 25-30 seats for the INDIA block. On the contrary, Axis My India predicted victory for the INDIA bloc with 45 percent of the votes in Jharkhand. The pollster predicted that the NDA would get 37 percent of the votes. Dainik Bhaskar predicted that the Jharkhand meeting will be concluded.

In the 2019 Assembly elections, JMM emerged as the single largest party with 30 seats, while the BJP won 25 seats. The Congress won 16 seats. JMM formed the government with the support of Congress and RJD.
