CHAPUNGU Queens

CHAPUNGU Queens beat Black Rhinos Queens 2-0 in the Heart Women’s Football League, whose week 24 match was rescheduled to finish second at the Heart Stadium in Waterfalls, Harare, yesterday as the title battle heats up.

Natasha Ndova and Edline Mutumbami scored for the Zimbabwe Air Force in the first half as the Rhinos’ ground men crumbled to dust.

Ndova scored with a long-range strike and Mutumbami headed in Chapungu’s second after a superb pass from Nobukhosi Ncube.

Waru Waru’s victory saw them leapfrog their opponents Rhinos into second place with 70 points, one behind log leaders and Herentals Queens.

The Rhinos are in third place with 68 points, with all teams having played 26 matches with four remaining to go to a thrilling end to the season.

Meanwhile, the Queens Black Rhinos’ veteran stars previously rediscovered their magic in Rio, making major contributions to Saturday’s 18-goal rout of MSU Queens at Hart Stadium.

Felistas “Figo” Muzongondi, former captain of the Zimbabwe women’s national football team, scored six goals: two in the first half and four after the break, with her sixth and final goal coming in the 90th minute.

Rutendo “Majimai” Makore, who also stole the show as a striker for the Mighty Warriors, showed her class by scoring four goals, a hat-trick in the first half and her final goal in the 66th minute.

Not to be outdone was midfield maestro Mavis Chirandu, who scored a brace in the 10th and 78th minutes of the game, while Daisy Caitano also got her name on the scoresheet with a goal in the 89th minute.

All four represented Zimbabwe at the Rio Summer Olympics in Brazil in 2016 and continue to kick ass in the Heart Women’s Football League.

Rhinos Queens’ Caroline Manguai opened the floodgates for a goal in the third minute and Makore found the net two minutes later and Muzongondi made it 3-nil with her first goal eight minutes later.

Panashe Ganje scored a brace in three minutes, her first goal coming in the 22nd minute and her second three minutes later, while Takunda Munawera also scored a brace in two minutes with goals in the 75th and 76th minutes. In Bulawayo, Highlanders Royals beat Sheesham Gweru Queens 3-1 at the Highlanders Club House Stadium.

Royals Patience Ndlovu opened the scoring in the 13th minute, Thando Sibanda increased the lead in the 24th minute and Mitchell Guri scored the hosts’ final goal in the 34th minute before Sheesham pulled one back from the spot in stoppage time.

Herentals Queens beat Maninga Youth Football Academy 2-0 at the Alexandra Sports Club in Harare, with the defending champions getting their goals through Natasha Benza in the first half and Melody Chikore 10 minutes before normal time.
