We did not watch helplessly as Kenyans suffered

President William Ruto has confirmed that his administration is not helplessly watching Kenyans go through difficult economic times.

In his address to the nation, Ruto said his administration was taking steps to reduce the economic burden faced by Kenyans.

“We did not helplessly watch and do nothing as adversity crippled the economy and undermined people’s livelihoods and well-being,” he said.

He added that his administration is working tirelessly to bring the country back from the brink of unprecedented economic collapse and onto a more promising trajectory.

“While we’re not where we’d like to be, we’re certainly not where we were two and a half years ago. The cost of living was too high and the cost of basic goods was unaffordable for many Kenyans,” he said.

The President noted that many struggling Kenyans are anxiously wondering when real money will flow into their pockets and the promised jobs will become a reality.

“There is no denying that times are tough for many Kenyans and the struggle to meet their basic needs remains challenging. It is also true that these conditions have persisted for a number of years. which leads to a lot of frustration and anxiety.”

He said the Kenya Kwanzaa administration came to power at an extremely difficult time, characterized by internal challenges compounded by local and global security, geopolitical financial and climate dynamics.

Last year, Ruto listed steps taken by his administration to address three critical areas: national security, international obligations and the realization of national values.

In his address last September, the president focused on his favorite topic: affordable housing projects.

He also discussed education sector transformation, universal health coverage (UHC), digitization of government services and security sector transformation, among others.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula on Wednesday noted that lawmakers would be given the opportunity on Monday afternoon to discuss His Excellency’s address.
