John Prescott: East Hull voters remember their former MP

One customer in line for lunch described him as “a real guy who told you how it happened.”

Nev said Prescott had “done some good work for Hull over the years”.

“I think people generally think well of him, no matter what party you support,” he said.

“You know, he was a simple guy, there was nothing wrong with him.”

Kevin Charles said he often ran into the deputy while shopping.

“He was a local politician for many years,” he said.

“He was part of the community.”

Mr Charles said he would also be remembered for his love of Jaguar cars.

“Two prongs,” he laughed.

“Two strikes, John Prescott, that’s all.”

Carol, out shopping in the freezing weather, said she was sad when she heard the news of his passing.

“He was a great figure for this region, he stood by his opinions and his beliefs,” she said.

“So I think he was a good MP for this region.

“I think he will be remembered as a strong man who did good for the city and he will be remembered fondly.”
