NEC expands state participation in power generation to reduce power outages

.Gives 3 states one week to submit state police positions.

The National Economic Council (NEC) on Thursday decided to increase states’ participation in power generation amid the recent epileptic power supply situation across the country.

This comes as the Council, chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima, has given the three states and the FCT one week to present their positions on the ongoing issue of state police.

Lucky Ayeditawa of Ondo State, briefing journalists at the end of the Council meeting, said NEC had constituted a committee headed by Governor Bassey Otu of Cross Rivers State to explore mechanisms to deepen the state’s participation in power generation.

Bayelsa State Governor, Duye Diri, while speaking on the issue of police in the state, announced that Adamawa, Kwara and Kebbi and the FCT are yet to present their positions to the State Police Council.

According to him, 33 states have already presented their positions.

Governor Diri said the Council had directed the three states and the FCT to submit their reports within one week and also concluded that the combined report of the states would be presented at the next meeting of the council.
