Indian badminton ace Lakshya Sen defeated Rasmus Gemke in the second round of the men’s event at the Cina Masters on Thursday, while veteran P.V. Sindhu and young teen shuttler Anupama Upadhyaya were defeated in the second round of the women’s singles. .

Lakshya registered a 21-6, 21-18 victory in 46 minutes over Denmark’s Genke to take the lead while Sindhu faced Yeo Jia Ming of Singapore with the latter emerging victorious in a match that lasted over an hour. 16–21, 21–17, 21–23.

In Upadhyaya’s case, it was the more dominant performance of her opponent, Japan’s Natsuki Nidaira, who won the game in straight sets 21-7, 21-14.

Among other Indian shuttlers, PV Sindhu will face 13th seed Yeo Jia Ming of Singapore in the women’s singles.

After defeating 15th seed Beiwen Zhang of the United States in the previous round, Upadhyaya was soundly defeated in the next round, where her opponent finished the match in 25 minutes.

Nidaira dominated throughout the match, giving away just seven points in the first set. But the Indian girl looked to fight back with a valiant effort to score 14 points but it was not enough as she was eventually beaten.

In the women’s singles, Malvika Bansod will also face eighth seed Supanida Katetong of Thailand.

In the men’s singles, Lakshya Sen will face Denmark’s Rasmus Gemke. Indian pair Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy will face Danish duo Rasmus Kjaer and Fredrik Sogaard. Finally, in the women’s doubles, Gayatri Gopichand Pulla and Trisa Jolly will face Liu Sheng Shu and Tangning.
