Infinity Nikki has been developed in secret for over a year, bringing in former Breath of the Wild and The Witcher 3 talent to bring the open world to life.

After years of releasing the series only on mobile devices, Infold Games is launching a great new open world adventure. Infinity Nikki on PC next month. The developer celebrates the approaching completion of several years of work with short documentary film looking back at Nikki’s journey to a new, even bigger Miraland and many more platforms.

Infinity Nikki’s development journey began in December 2019, says Infold Games CTO Fei Ge, when a series producer expressed interest in working on an open-world Nikki game.

“The project was kept secret at the time,” says Fey. “So we rented an additional workspace of about 50-60 square meters separate from our main office. We then gradually began recruiting and assembling our initial team, working on ideas, laying the foundation and building the infrastructure. We continued like this for over a year.”

Developers often work on a game for several years before publicly announcing it – which is what Infold Games did. first trailer for Infinity Nikki two years later, in 2022—but it does sound like this massive new direction for the series has been at least a bit of a secret from the rest of the team for a while.

I have no doubt that it wasn’t easy for a former gacha-style mobile dress-up game series to expand into the full open-world adventure that Infinity Nikki became. In the rest of the development documentary, Infold details parts of that journey: how its producer sculpted a miniature version of a giant pumpkin tree out of clay to inspire developers in the office, and how its musicians traveled to Hungary to include certain instruments in the soundtrack.

In the doc you’ll also see some of the external talent Infold worked with: Kentaro “Tomiken” Tominaga, designer of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Andrzej Dybowski, concept artist from The Witcher 3. These are some powerful resume names worth calling.

As for the pre-release documentation, it’s of course mostly fluff and an opportunity to hear from the developers about all the parts of the game they were interested in working on. Although I will say that I am very happy to see an area with a Millevish tree in the game at launch. Truly, nothing compares to a huge tree with a village inside it.

Infinity Nikki called itself “the coziest open world game ever,” and while I had some initial fears As for the freemium Gacha style of play invading cozy games, I’m ultimately as weak as everyone else and ended up being quite excited about the possibility of Nikki appearing leader among dress-up games on PC.

We’ll soon find out if my expected chance has any value, because Infinity Nikki will release on December 5th on mobile, PS5 and PC via Epic Games or its standalone launcher.
