Starchild: Why Malaysian children love red

Colors surround us everywhere: from the blue sky to the green of the grass and the red of the hibiscus. But did you know that colors have special meanings and can influence how we feel?

What is your favorite color and how does it make you feel?

Red is the color of energy and excitement. It is often used during holidays such as Chinese New Year (CNY) to symbolize good luck and prosperity. Yellow is the color of sunshine and makes us feel warm and cheerful. In many cultures, yellow signifies friendship and hope.

Green reminds us of nature and growth. It symbolizes freshness and new beginnings. Meanwhile, purple has long been considered a royal color, often associated with creativity and wisdom.

Colors also play a big role in traditions around the world. In Japan, white symbolizes purity and is worn during special ceremonies.

Did you know that colors can brighten someone’s day? Wearing bright clothes or drawing with bright crayons can make you and other people happier. Imagine giving your friend a colorful card – it will definitely bring a smile!

Each color has its own magic and meaning. Some colors can remind you of happy memories, such as cotton candy pink. Others may make you feel relaxed or anxious. This is the power of flowers – they bring life, beauty and joy to the world around us!

So the next time you see a rainbow, think that each color is special, just like you.

Jayden Tan Li ShengA 12-year-old writes: “I love bright colors. My favorite color is red. I like the color red because I think of red roses for my mother, a beautiful red dress for my sister and a red shirt for myself. When it comes to food, I love spicy food with red chili sambal. The color red makes me feel energetic, confident and brave. It’s also about ambition. I love challenges.”

Twelve year old Ken Xin RuFavorite colors are orange and green. “These colors remind me of nature and happiness. Orange makes me think of bright sunny days. Green reminds me of trees, plants and the peaceful feeling of being outdoors.”

Lim Jing Fu12 years old, prefers red and green. “These colors make me feel calm and cheerful at the same time.”

Eight year old child Chua Seng KoonThe boy’s favorite color is red, as it is one of the colors of the rainbow. “Our national flower is the red hibiscus. Another reason I love the color red is the red packets (angpow) that are traditionally given out during CNY. Red symbolizes good luck, especially during the Yuan celebrations. You can see red banners hung on doors and red firecrackers lit in the gardens. Even during traditional Chinese weddings, auspicious red characters are placed on the doors and in the bridal rooms to bring blessings and joy.”

“There are many colors in the world, but I think blue is the best. There are many shades of blue, and they all look very beautiful. I think blue flame blue is the best color. This is a very energetic and beautiful color. At the same time, blue is a calming color,” says Lim Sheng Hao11.
