Anambra State plans to spend N200 billion on ongoing and new road projects in the 2025 budget

The Anambra State Government has proposed spending N200 billion to complete current road projects and start new ones as part of its 2025 budget.

The allocation is part of the proposed 2025 capital expenditure for the Anambra State Ministry of Works aimed at improving infrastructure and stimulating economic development.

However, the proposal is yet to receive approval from the state House of Assembly.

The information was obtained from a statement by the Anambra State Ministry of Information published on the state website. It describes the breakdown of the N606.99 billion budget proposal presented by the Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to the state House of Assembly earlier this week.

The governor highlighted some key projects that will be funded by the proposed N200 billion in 2025, including the consolidation of the 34km Amawbia-Imo State Road and the completion of the Ekwulobia flyover, among others.

The statement also indicated that other major projects of the Ministry of Works not part of the N200 billion road allocation include the development of new towns in Awka, Onitsha and Industrial City with an allocation of N32 billion, construction of a 4 star hotel, budget which is 15 billion naira, as well as the development of new markets that will receive 10 billion naira.

Additional initiatives include the furnishing of the new Government House, amphitheatre, banquet hall and security houses with a budget of N5 billion, as well as the completion of the Solutions Innovation District (SID) aimed at developing a community of innovators. technologists and entrepreneurs, N3 billion has been allocated for the project.

The Ministry of Transport is proposed to receive N2.5 billion for the purchase of public transport and maritime infrastructure including buses, jetties and boats. The Ministry of National Security has allocated N2 billion for armored vehicles and equipment.

  • Other key allocations include N5 billion to the Ministry of Information for media outreach, N500 million to the Ministry of Special Duties for river projects and N2 billion to the Ministry of Agriculture for a palm and coconut seedling program.
  • The Ministry of Energy and Water Resources is proposed to receive N7 billion to expand electricity supply to low-income areas and install solar street lights.
  • The House of Assembly has been allocated N1.5 billion for legislative premises and N2.24 billion for the maintenance and expansion of the Solutions Innovation District (SID).
  • In addition, the Ministry of Youth Development is proposed to receive N3 billion for youth empowerment, while the Ministry of Education is allocated N11 billion for smart schools and N22 billion for institutional development.

The Ministry of Health is proposed to allocate N3 billion for general hospitals and specialized projects, including the cancer hospital.
