The creators and stars of the new critically acclaimed BBC comedy series We may regret this It was teased that the upcoming second season will introduce a major weird plot.

We speak to PinkNews as they are named as one of 42 creatives included in this year’s awards. BAFTA Breakthrough Team Kayla Harris and Lee Getty said they wanted “as many weird storylines as possible” in the comedy series.

Season 1 We may regret this was a hit with both critics and audiences when it appeared on BBC back in August, thanks to a candid yet funny image disability and caring responsibilities.

So much so that the show took place in October updated for both the second and third seasons, a rare feat in today’s crowded television market.

The comedy-drama stars writer and creator Kayla Harris as Freya, a paraplegic woman who moves to London from Canada to be with her boyfriend Abe (SpyDarren Boyd).

Requiring constant personal assistance to care for her, Freya initially hires an incompetent assistant to support her, with unfortunate (but hilarious) consequences.

She then decides to recruit her chaotic best friend Jo (Industry(Elena Saurel) in this role, and more fun follows, as well as many poignant moments.

The show, written by Harris and Getty, is inspired by the pair’s real-life friendship and Harris’ experiences being helped by Getty.

“The whole series is still made up. All this is inspired by experience, but nothing from our life has been recreated there except phlegm gets on my face at a strange moment,” Getty exclusively told PinkNews.

However, the upcoming seasons will continue to reflect Harris’ experiences, especially as a queer person of color with disabilities.

“Being gay is not something that can be excluded from any part of my life and experience,” she explained.

“What’s also really interesting to me—and I think this is something we could explore—is that sometimes in queer spaces it’s not very inaccessible, and sometimes in accessible spaces it’s not very queer-friendly.”

Although Freya and Abe’s heterosexual relationship is one of the main dynamics in the first season, the second season will be much more fruitful.

“We always wanted the show to have as many queer storylines as possible, and (after making the first season) we were still like, ‘Oh God, this is so hetero,'” Harris laughed.

“We had to tweak a lot of things in the first season,” Getty added. “We were like, ‘Oh my God, can’t we just… Okay, she’s married, she’s divorced. Now about the weird dating scene, you know? But next season is ahead.”

They then teased that they would make seasons two and three a lot more fun.

Harris went on to explain why. We may regret this initially strange, far from the sexuality of its characters.

“I feel like being disabled is the weirdest experience you can have because the word “weird” also comes from the word “different, strange, outsider.” I think this is something that people with disabilities still face every day,” she shared.

While the now infamous face pussy scene This is one of the few events based directly on Harris and Getty’s friendship, and they will continue to mine their friendship for comedy gold in seasons two and three.

“We barely scraped the top off. I mean we have so much experience that we’ve had over 20 years of friendship and sometimes we can’t even remember it,” Getty said.

“And we’re still creating that experience,” Harris added. “So much content continues to happen to us.”
