A large number of job seekers are turning to social media, especially LinkedIn, to connect with potential employers and explore new career opportunities. The platform is expanding features to help you avoid scams and scammers and find a job that matches your aspirations. By reviewing job postings, verifying the identity of the sender, and being mindful of the information you share, you can protect yourself and ensure a safe job search.

Here are some tips and tools to help job seekers in their search:

1. Check the verified information in job postings.

A verified icon on a job posting indicates that there is verified information about the company or job posting. This includes if the author is associated with an official company page, has verified their affiliation with a specific workplace, or has verified their identity through one of our identity verification partners.

2. Take care of what you share.

Consider what personal information you are asked for. Never provide bank details before the registration process.

3. Say no to suspicious requests

Fraudsters may use tactics that legitimate employers wouldn’t, such as asking you to download encrypted software for an interview or offering a job with high pay for little work. Job offers after one remote interview very rarely turn out to be a legitimate deal. You can report spam and inappropriate content.

4. Enable message warnings

Consider turning on LinkedIn’s optional automatic malicious content detection, which can detect potentially dangerous scams.

5. Look for warning signs

Be wary of job postings that sound too good to be true or require upfront payment. Common scams include roles such as mystery shopper, company impersonator or personal assistant. Also, be wary of anyone asking you to send money, cryptocurrency, gift cards, or investments.

6. Filtering by vacancies with checks

You can now filter your job search to show only jobs with background checks. The filter allows you to search exclusively for jobs posted by companies with a verified LinkedIn page, as well as current job postings associated with those companies. If this setting is enabled, only jobs with these checks will appear in search results, and the filter will be visible in the search title.

7. Content creators can support job seekers with credible advice.

Many job seekers turn to trusted LinkedIn members such as Verified Members and Top Voices for career advice and inspiration. When viewing organic or sponsored content, look for clear tags such as #ad, #sponsored or #partner as indicators of a paid partnership. We encourage creators to comply with applicable laws and platform policies to ensure the transparency and authenticity of their endorsements.
