An Indian Navy submarine collided with the fishing vessel Martoma on Thursday about 70 nautical miles northwest of Goa. Shortly after the incident, 11 crew members were rescued and search efforts continue to locate the remaining two missing crew members.

The collision occurred while the submarine was passing along the west coast. In response, the Navy immediately launched a coordinated search and rescue (SAR) operation. Six ships and several aircraft were initially deployed to locate and rescue the crew of the fishing vessel.

On Friday, the Navy intensified efforts by deploying additional assets, including the Indian Coast Guard. The operation is being coordinated by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) in Mumbai.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) statement said:

“Coordinated search and rescue efforts are ongoing for the remaining two crew members of the Martoma who reportedly collided with the Indian Navy submarine PM 21 on 21 November 2024, approximately 70 nautical miles northwest of Goa. Additional funds, including from the coast. Security has been redirected to the area to enhance efforts.”
