Johnny Earl Eason II, 34, of Ahoskie, is jailed without bail after his Nov. 7 arrest. Eason is charged with nine felonies: one count each of trafficking in marijuana, trafficking in opium and trafficking in LSD; two counts each of possession with intent to sell/deliver a Schedule I controlled substance and possession with intent to sell/deliver a Schedule II controlled substance; and one count each of possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana and possession with intent to sell/deliver Schedule III controlled substances.

Eason is scheduled to appear in court on November 22 to answer to these charges.

His arrest resulted from a traffic stop conducted Nov. 7 by the DownEast Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force in conjunction with the Hartford County Sheriff’s Office. During the traffic stop, an exterior search of the vehicle was conducted with a K9, which alerted Eason’s vehicle to the possible presence of drugs. This led to a search of Eason’s vehicle, during which crystal methamphetamine was discovered near where the driver was sitting. Eason was the only occupant of the vehicle.

Further investigation led task force agents to a home located on US 13 south of Ahoskie. There, agents found two black suitcases containing various types of illegal drugs. Seized as evidence from these suitcases were 15.5 pounds of marijuana, 2.3 pounds of psychedelic mushrooms, 514 LSD (acid) pills, 64 grams of fentanyl, 424 grams of ketamine and 20 grams of crystal methamphetamine.

“We work hard every day to try to combat and curb the sale of illegal drugs in our county,” said Hartford County Sheriff Dexter Hayes. “We are fully aware that the illegal drug trade and violent crime go hand in hand. That’s why we continue to work diligently to arrest those responsible for selling these drugs and to bring them to justice to the fullest extent of the law.

“I am proud of the work of my officers and agents on the Task Force. It is our sworn duty to work to keep our cities and county safe for those who live and work here,” Hayes added.
