The Best Full Gear Matches to Watch

Jon Moxley vs. Orange Cassidy

The supposed main event of Full Gear will see Orange Cassidy attempt to take control of the AEW World Championship and the AEW as a whole from Jon Moxley.

Since defeating Bryan Danielson for the title at WrestleDream last month, Mox and his Death Riders faction have enjoyed reigning terror over AEW, destroying everyone and everything in their path.

Given his status as an original AEW player and longtime rival to Moxley, Cassidy has stepped up and attempted to lead the resistance, and he could deal a huge blow to Full Gear by winning the title.

Saturday’s match will be a turning point for Moxley and Cassidy in many ways, as they faced each other at Full Gear last year when OC defeated Mox to retain the International Title.

If the result is the same this time around, it would undoubtedly be the biggest win of Cassidy’s career, although he faces a tough climb with Claudio Castagnoli, Pac, Marina Shafir and Wheeler Utah likely to step in on Moxley’s behalf.

Moxley is widely expected to win and retain as it’s still early in his reign, but the match still promises to be a great one considering the chemistry Mox and Cassidy have proven with each other in previous encounters.

Mercedes Monet vs Kris Statlander

Mercedes Monet has been the TBS champion for almost six months now, and she may be facing her toughest test yet at Full Gear.

Over the past few weeks, Mercedes has been feuding with Kris Statlander, who recently turned babyface and refocused, setting her sights on the TBS title and one of AEW’s biggest stars.

Statlander was a force during her rivalry with Monet, defeating her bodyguard Camille on multiple occasions, suggesting this could be a fair one-on-one contest on Full Gear.

Holding the TBS title is nothing foreign to Statlander, as she held it for 174 days after ending Jade Cargill’s record reign of 508 days in May 2023.

It has a clear size and strength advantage over the Mercedes, but the CEO is as cunning and savvy as can be, which can create the perfect dichotomy in styles.

Mercedes has yet to lose a match in AEW, but if there are plans for her to compete in the AEW Women’s World Championship in the near future, Statlander could be the right choice to hand Mona her first loss.

Swerve Strickland vs. Bobby Lashley

A potential future main eventer and AEW World Champion is set to make his AEW pay-per-view debut on Saturday in the form of Bobby Lashley.

Lashley previously held world titles in both WWE and TNA, and given his size, power and legitimacy, it may not be long before he finds himself at the top of the mountain in AEW as well.

The 48-year-old veteran recently made his AEW debut, teaming with MVP and Shelton Benjamin to form the Hurt Syndicate. Their main target was former AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland, who turned down an invitation to join the group.

While Lashley is looking to use Swerve as a springboard to the top, Strickland has already been there and a win over Lashley could possibly go a long way in getting him back into the world title conversation.

Regardless of what the future holds for both performers, there’s reason to believe they have the ability to make the match of the night despite the challenging nature of the Full Gear card.

Lashley’s strength and physicality fit perfectly with Strickland’s speed and athleticism, meaning they have what it takes to tear down the house in Newark.
