Hyundai and Kia recall more than 208,000 electric vehicles; may suffer from loss of power

Hyundai and Kia have recalled more than 208,000 electric vehicles to fix a problem that can cause a loss of drive power, which could increase the risk of a crash.

These recalls cover more than 145,000 Hyundai and Genesis vehicles, including the 2022-2024 Ioniq 5, 2023-2025 Ioniq 6, GV60 and GV70, and 2023 and 2024 G80, the Associated Press reported.

In addition, 63,000 Kia EV 6 vehicles produced from 2022 to 2024 are also affected by the recall.

Citing government documents, the AP reports that Korean automakers explained that a transistor in the charging control unit could become damaged and stop charging the 12-volt battery.

Owners of vehicles affected by the recall can bring their vehicles to the dealership, and service technicians will check and, if necessary, replace the control unit and fuse, and update the software.

The AP notes that owners whose vehicles were recalled earlier in 2024 to repair the same problem will have to visit their local dealership again. Owners will also receive a letter in December and January.
