At the Nov. 12 meeting, CAO Rob de Bortoli provided the council with an update on how much money has been spent on arena renovations.

“Obviously this was a moving target… rather than provide a very, very detailed report, which at this point would be very difficult to produce given the backlog of items and expenses yet to be determined, I thought of a high… tiered approach, to give you an estimate of what we have spent to date,” the CAO said.

For the restoration project, which includes rebuilding the woodwork and foundation work, a total of $7.7 million was spent. Of this amount, $824,764 was spent on design work to Wood Research and Development Canada (WRD), and $6,938,192 was paid to Timber Restoration Services (TRS) for the actual work of restoring the structure (manual).

The CAO told the council that an additional $1.6 million was approved at a special meeting on Oct. 31 for building stabilization.

“So to date, we have spent and committed to spend about $9.4 million to restore the site or rehabilitate the site,” de Bortoli said.

Another $1.479 million was allocated for roof replacement and $83,736 for work on the sprinkler system, bringing the total to approximately $11 million.
