A knife-wielding man stabbed a police officer outside a Los Angeles police station, leading to the officer fatally shooting the assailant in a horrific scene captured on police body camera.

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Deya Abdelhadi Halaibe, showed up at the front doors of the Santa Monica Police Department and pressed the call button as the officer headed outside to speak with another person. Fox News reported.

There were two other people outside the station, prompting the officer to tell Halaiba that he would have to wait his turn before they could talk.

Footage from a police body camera showed the suspect suspiciously placing his right hand under his jacket, which alarmed the officer.

-What do you have in your jacket? said the policeman. “I get a little nervous with your hand stuck in your jacket like that.”

-Are you nervous? Halaibe responded and then lunged at the officer with an eight-inch chef’s knife.

Halaibe stabbed and cut the officer several times before the officer was able to run away and draw his gun as the suspect gave chase.

The struggle continued and several shots were fired, with the officer able to separate from Halaibe and shoot him as the suspect was holding a knife.

Halaibe, a New York resident with no criminal history in California or any contact with Santa Monica police, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment and later released.

The suspect stole the knife he was using from a Target store moments before the attack, attacking an employee in the process, Fox reported.
