A man accused of firing a gun at a strip club in central London pleaded guilty Thursday to assaulting a bar employee.

Kwabena Andrew Ankhwere, 42, pleaded guilty to assaulting the Solid Gold employee on April 29 and was sentenced to 30 days in jail, the equivalent of 20 days on remand, and given an 18-month suspended sentence.

Several other firearms-related charges against Ankhwere, who remains in custody, have been referred to the Ontario Superior Court.

An agreed statement of facts was read into the record describing the events leading up to the attack on the employee of the Dundas Street bar, one of two strip clubs remaining in the city.

Ankhwere, who was known to several strip club workers, was at the bar when he approached a female employee and put his hand to her crotch, prompting her to smack his hand away, the court heard.

Ankhver hit her before he was kicked out of the bar, the court heard.

“My client celebrated his birthday that night. That night he was very drunk. Obviously this doesn’t provide an excuse or any defense, but a lot of things happened that night and unfortunately my client did not react well,” said defense attorney Aaron Prevost.
