Convicted killer attacked Whitemoor prison officer in March

A convicted murderer who attacked a prison officer over food has had his sentence extended.

Fabio Serrano, 24, who was serving a life sentence for manslaughter in 2018, assaulted an officer at Whitemoor Prison in March at around 4pm on Saturday 30 October 2021.

The prison guard served the prisoners dinner and opened the door to Serrano’s cell.

Serrano stated that his food was contaminated and approached the officer with a wire wrapped around his right arm.

He hit the officer in the chin and continued to throw punches.

The prison officer was taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

At Cambridge Crown Court yesterday, Serrano, of HMP Wood Hill, Milton Keynes, was jailed for 30 months after pleading guilty to causing actual bodily harm.

He was also found guilty of two counts of unauthorized possession of an offensive weapon in prison.

DC Emma Purser said: “Serrano is an incredibly dangerous criminal who has a history of attacking prison officers, so it is good news his sentence has been extended.”
