Queen Camilla is still ill and cancels another important engagement

Queen Camilla has canceled her appearance at a major event on the royal calendar as she continues to suffer the lingering effects of a chest infection.

Camilla missed Sunday’s events in London ten days ago and, despite attending some events this week,Buckingham Palace said on Friday that the 77-year-old will not attend tonight’s Royal Variety Performance, an iconic element of the royal festive calendar that sees members of the royal family visit a central London theater for a program of popular entertainment.

More than three weeks from the date catch a disease shortly after an overseas tour that culminated in a stay at an alternative healing clinic in India, Camilla still unwell with what sources describe as a “nasty bug” and “lingering post-viral symptoms” of a chest infection.

A palace spokesman and an official source tried to downplay the severity of the queen’s condition.

A spokesman said: “Following a recent respiratory tract infection, the Queen continues to experience some lingering post-viral symptoms and as a result doctors have advised that after a busy week of events, Her Majesty should prioritize getting adequate rest.”

The source said that due to the “lateness” of the event, Camilla “sensibly decided to heed the advice of doctors that there was a risk of overexertion in recovering patients.”

A palace source said the “unpleasant mistake” left the Queen feeling “a little uneasy.”

She said the Queen was “naturally disappointed to have missed the evening’s entertainment and sincerely apologizes to everyone involved, but firmly believes the show must go on.” She hopes to return to full strength and regular public duties very soon.”
