2024 exit poll results. Live Highlights: Ajit Dada should become President of Maharashtra, says NCP leader

2024 exit poll results live: Most exit polls predicted a defeat for the Maha Aghadi Vikas (MVA) and a clear victory for the Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra. Axis My India predicts Mahayuti to win 189 seats and MVA 90 in Maharashtra. Meanwhile, the BJP-led NDA is also likely to dislodge the ruling INDIA bloc in Jharkhand, according to most exit poll results announced on Wednesday. However, Axis My India predicts that the JMM and its INDIA bloc allies are likely to retain Jharkhand.

The early results predicted a clear victory for Mahayuti in Maharashtra. According to early forecasts, pollsters have given an advantage to the BJP-led NDA in Jharkhand as well.

According to the survey, Matrise predicted 150-170 seats for Mahayuti, 110-130 seats for MBA and 8-10 seats for the rest. According to the P-Marq poll, the majority in the Maharashtra assembly is 145. Mahayuti could win 137-157 seats in Maharashtra. According to the survey, MVA could win 126-146 seats.

The News24-Channakya exit poll predicts the ruling Mahayuti alliance to win 152-160 seats and MVA 130-138 seats in Maharashtra.

Early predictions suggest that pollsters have given an edge to the NDA in Jharkhand as well. The People’s Pulse Party gave 42–48 seats to the BJP-led PDP and 16–23 seats to the JMM. The pollster gave 8-14 seats to the Congress, which is an ally of the JMM.

What are exit polls?

Exit polls are forecasts based on voter feedback collected by polling agencies after the vote. The main idea of exit polls is to reflect public opinion long before the actual results are obtained. However, their accuracy has often been criticized.

As per the Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines, TV channels and other research organizations can start publishing exit poll results after 6:30 pm. These poll results cannot be published until half an hour after the end of voting, in accordance with section 126A of the Representation of the People Act 1951.

Exit polls of Maharashtra and Jharkhand

The fight in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections is largely bipolar between two alliances – Mayathi and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is in alliance with the Ajit Pawar-led NCP and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena in the ruling Mahayuti banner. The opposition MVA alliance includes the Shiv Sena (UBT), the NCP (Sharad Pawar) and the Congress party.

In Jharkhand, the fight is between the ruling INDIA bloc led by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

What did exit polls show in 2019?

In the 2019 assembly elections, exit polls generally correctly predicted the results in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. However, the numbers were not entirely accurate compared to the final results.

In Maharashtra, the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) of the BJP and Shiv Sena (SS) won a majority. However, the alliance dissolved after disagreements over government formation sparked a political crisis.

JMM emerged as the largest party winning 30 seats in the 2019 Assembly elections, while the BJP won 25 seats. Congress won 16 seats, Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) won 3 seats and All Jharkhand Students Union won 2 seats.

JMM formed the government with the support of Congress and RJD.
