Loughborough University recently joined MIT Global SCALE Networkwhich supports affiliated supply chain education and research centers in Colombia, Luxembourg, Spain and China. The only and exclusive UK hub of the Global SCALE network, the new center in Loughborough. British SCALE Center aims to be a hub for researchers, industry collaborators and aspiring or existing supply chain professionals.

The collaboration between Loughborough and MIT offers an exciting opportunity for MIT graduates and supply chain professionals to enroll in the new program. Master’s Program in Supply Chain Management. This flagship program of the Center will give students the opportunity to spend time on both the MIT Boston campus and Loughborough Business School.

“We need to think very carefully about how to ensure that everyone in our country and around the world has access to the things they need, when they need them, at a price they can afford. Nurturing the next generation of supply chain talent through initiatives such as our new UK SCALE Center master’s program is an important part of this,” explained Loughborough Business School Dean, Professor Ian Godsell.

Students who successfully complete the MSc in Supply Chain Management at Loughborough University will receive a Certificate in Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management from the MIT Global SCALE Network upon graduation. In addition, MIT alumni will receive Associate Alumni status from MIT, providing access to certain benefits within the MIT Alumni Association, such as an online alumni directory and networking opportunities.

A central component of the program is the MIT SCALE Connect residential complex, which takes place over three weeks on the MIT campus in Boston, Massachusetts, and includes participants from across the Global SCALE network. During this period, students will take part in a series of career development workshops, seminars and industry talks.

Participants will receive in-depth training in areas such as data visualization, Python, machine learning and Llamasoft, as well as take part in site tours and team challenges. The residential complex culminates with a research exhibition in which students present their work on industry-sponsored and other real-world research projects.

“I am particularly excited about the opportunity for our students to experience MIT’s unique culture and interact with inspiring faculty and research staff during their time in Boston,” said Professor Ken Lee, Director of Graduate Studies at Loughborough Business School.

Vice-Chancellor and President of Loughborough University, Professor Nick Jennings added: “Our partnership with MIT’s Center for Transport and Logistics (CTL) is really helping to put Loughborough on the global stage – it’s a great partnership with a world-class university.”

Each of the existing centers in Zaragoza, Bogota, Luxembourg and Ningbo offers its own version of a postgraduate program in supply chain management that complements a “comprehensive curriculum” modeled after MIT’s world-leading original program.

“Loughborough University’s exceptional research capabilities and commitment to supply chain innovation make it a valuable addition to the global MIT SCALE network,” said Professor Yossi Sheffi, Director of MIT CTL. “Their expertise will enhance our collective ability to create cutting-edge solutions and train the next generation of supply chain leaders.”
