70 people experienced gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting during the cruise ship’s month-long voyage from Singapore to Los Angeles due to the norovirus outbreak.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said the norovirus outbreak was first reported on November 9th. Seventy people among the 2,729 passengers and crew on the Coral Princess, which departed Singapore on Oct. 17, reported symptoms. Straits Times reported.

The CDC said norovirus can be spread through contaminated food. Symptoms include fever, headaches and gastrointestinal problems. The center added that some types of food, including shellfish, may contain higher concentrations of norovirus.

After leaving Singapore, the Coral Princess stopped in Thailand, Vietnam, China and Japan. Daily mail reported. It arrived in Los Angeles on November 17 to send the affected people back to land, and then headed to Miami the same day.

Princess Cruises, the Coral Princess cruise line, said it cleaned and disinfected the ship in response to the norovirus outbreak, the CDC said.
