TalentCorp reveals workforce trends in artificial intelligence, digitalization and green economy

Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp), a strategic think tank of the Ministry of Human Resources, has released a groundbreaking study on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI), digital technology and the green economy on the Malaysian workforce.

In line with YAB Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s vision to position Malaysia among the top 20 global leaders in artificial intelligence, the study analyzes industry transformation, new jobs and required skills for Malaysia’s future talent. It covers 10 key sectors, including aerospace, chemicals, electrical and electronics, energy, food manufacturing and services, global business services, ICT, medical devices, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and wholesale and retail trade, which together generated 933 billion ringgit, or 60% of Malaysia’s GDP in 2023.

Speaking at the launch event, KESUMA YB Minister Stephen Sim Chee Keong highlighted the transformative potential of the research, saying: “TalentCorp’s research highlights the enormous opportunities for Malaysian workers as automation, digitalization and the green economy transform industries. By identifying critical skills and new roles, we are empowering Malaysians to adapt and lead globally, ensuring sustainable growth and resilience in our workforce.”

Central to these efforts is MyMAHIR, a comprehensive digital platform designed to equip Malaysian talent with future-ready skills. By combining the results of TalentCorp research, MyMAHIR provides valuable information on industry trends, emerging roles, skill requirements, career paths and training programs in various sectors. Serving as a centralized resource with detailed skill classifications, it provides policymakers, employers, professionals and students with the tools to navigate industry changes and seize new opportunities.

Thomas Mathew, Group CEO of TalentCorp, highlighted the agency’s proactive role: “TalentCorp works closely with industry stakeholders to ensure the Malaysian workforce remains adaptable. Through MyMAHIR and our initiatives, including the Critical Occupations List and MyNext, we are addressing immediate and long-term challenges. needs, equipping Malaysians with skills critical to our economic and global competitiveness.”

Increasing staff resilience

The study identifies 60 new jobs such as artificial intelligence engineers, sustainability specialists and biotechnology engineers that are critical to the development of Malaysia’s green and digital economy.

To support upskilling and reskilling of the workforce, YB Stephen Sim announced that the ministry will offer support in the form of fees, loans, scholarships and matching grants through the RM3 billion KESUMA fund. Incentives for in-demand courses, such as scholarships for critical skills, are also being considered.

These will be available through the MyMAHIR platform and the upcoming Akademi conference.

KESUMA will be introduced next year to provide comprehensive resources for skills development and career development.

Looking to the future, the second phase of the study will expand to cover 12 additional sectors in 2025, reinforcing TalentCorp’s commitment to equipping the nation’s workforce with the skills needed to thrive in an emerging economy.

As Malaysia moves towards a green and digital economy, TalentCorp’s initiatives ensure that the workforce is not only employed, but also able to drive innovation and global leadership, paving the way for a sustainable future.
