Democratic Sen. Bob Casey finally conceded the Pennsylvania race to Republican Dave McCormick, weeks after it was called.

Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) finally conceded the U.S. Senate election in Pennsylvania to Republican Dave McCormick on Thursday, two weeks after media reports. called the race in favor of the Republican Party.

“I just called Dave McCormick to congratulate him on his election to represent Pennsylvania in the U.S. Senate,” Casey, 64, said in a video posted on X.

“With the first ballot count complete, Pennsylvanians can move forward knowing their voices were heard, whether their vote was first or last,” he added.

The Associated Press projected McCormick would win the tight race on November 7, but Casey refused to concede defeat.

The three-term Democratic incumbent pushed for a statewide recount, which was accepted by the Commonwealth. State Department predicts completion will cost taxpayers more than $1 million.

Democratic officials also launched a legal effort to count undated ballots in all 67 counties in the Keystone State. This latest attempt was rejected earlier this week by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

Casey said he was “proud” of his team’s efforts since the election.

“This race was one of the closest in the history of our Commonwealth, decided by less than a quarter of a point. “I am grateful to the thousands of people who are working to ensure that every eligible vote can be counted, including election officials in all 67 counties,” he said in a video message.

“I am proud of the work we have done since Election Day to enfranchise voters across the state,” Casey added.

At the time Casey conceded, McCormick was leading the race by about 16,000 votes with nearly 7 million ballots counted.

“Senator Bob Casey has dedicated his career to improving our Commonwealth. Dina and I want to express our sincere gratitude to Senator Casey Teresa and their family for their decades of service, hard work and personal sacrifice,” McCormick said in a statement released after Casey’s brief concession speech.

“I am honored to represent every Pennsylvanian in the U.S. Senate, and I will fight for you every day. Thank you!” he added.

With McCormick’s official victory, Republicans will have a 53-47 majority in the Senate when the 119th Congress convenes on Jan. 3.
