Here’s how much parents spend on holiday gifts for each child

The study found that on average parents spend $173 per child over the course of holiday season.

However, spending habits varied greatly depending on family dynamics, income levels, and even the age of the child.

Parents with multiple children spend less per child

The survey also found that families spend on average 18% less per child compared to parents with only one child.

Moms with one child planned to spend $202, while those with two or more children budgeted $170 per child.

Additionally, parents said they spend almost the same amount on gifts for babies, toddlers and older children. According to the data, babies under 12 months receive gifts worth $168, and babies from 1 to 4 years old receive gifts worth $161.

Young mothers tend to spend more

Gen Z moms spend an average of $179 per child, compared to millennials who spend $170.

While the data shows that younger moms spend a little more, these moms reported earning less than their older counterparts. Gen Z moms in the survey reported their average household income to be $56,021, compared to the $76,747 Millennial moms earn annually.

“Historically, we’ve succumbed to pressure and gone crazy trying to buy tons of gifts,” one mom shared in What to Expect. “But recently we decided to introduce a new rule – four gifts for each: they want onethey need one thing one thing they wear And one thing they read. I can already feel a huge weight lifting just by deciding to do this!”
