Law enforcement seized drugs, weapons and homemade alcohol at Suwannee Correctional Facility during a search

LIVE OAK, Fla. (WCTV) – An unannounced contraband sweep at the Suwannee Correctional Facility found nearly 60 homemade weapons and several grams of various drugs among other prohibited items on inmates, according to a joint press release from multiple law enforcement agencies.

The massive search, dubbed “Operation Fall Harvest,” involved the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC), Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) and the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office, according to a press release. .

The purpose of the search was to “detect and eradicate any contraband found at the facility and to reassure those involved in illegal activities that there is zero tolerance for any misconduct,” authorities said.

Florida Department of Corrections Secretary Ricky Dixon said law enforcement often conducts similar searches, but this case was different.

“Our officers conduct operations like these throughout the year to identify dangerous contraband and ensure the safety of our facilities,” Dixon said. “What makes today unique is the opportunity to bring our incredible partners into this endeavor.”

During the search, law enforcement authorities seized the following items:

  • 59 types of weapons
  • 25 mobile phone chargers
  • 7 mobile phones
  • Mobile phone accessories
  • 19 gallons of homemade alcohol
  • 13 grams of synthetic marijuana
  • 26 grams THC
  • 44 grams of methamphetamine
  • 1 THC vape pen
  • 3 security bits
  • 1 hex key
  • $300 cash
