‘Speculative and inaccurate’: Trudeau government rejects Canadian media report linking PM Modi to Nijjar’s murder

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Wednesday strongly rejected a Canadian media report linking Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Justin Trudeau government V Canada has dismissed the recent controversial report linking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, calling the media report “speculative and inaccurate”.

“The Government of Canada has not alleged or has any evidence linking Prime Minister Modi, Minister Jaishankar or NSA Doval to serious criminal activity in Canada. Any suggestion to the contrary is speculative and inaccurate,” the government said. .

The report claims that Prime Minister Modi knew about the plot to kill Nijjar in British Columbia. The accusation prompted a sharp reaction from the Foreign Office.

“We usually do not comment on media reports. However, such outlandish statements made in a newspaper purportedly by a Canadian government source must be rejected with the contempt they deserve,” said MEA spokesperson Shri. Randhir Jaiswal said.

He went on to say that “smear campaigns like these only further damage our already strained ties.”

A report published by The Globe and Mail quoted a senior Canadian national security official as saying Canadian security officials believed Prime Minister Modi knew about Nijjar’s murder and “other violent plots” in Canada.

The official said Canadian and US intelligence agencies had linked the assassination operation to Home Minister Amit Shah, which also involved National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar.

While Canada has not provided any evidence of Prime Minister Modi’s alleged involvement, the official suggested it was “hard to believe” that such a significant operation involving three senior officials in India “was not discussed with Mr. Modi before proceeding with it.” “.
