‘I didn’t even realize’: Benny Blanco talks about his accidental first date with Selena Selena Gomez

Benny Blanco recently shared a funny story about his first date with Selena Gomez during a live broadcast with Kai Senate. The music producer said he didn’t realize he was on a date with the pop star at first.

Blanco explained that it was Selena who asked him out. “She asked me out on a date. It was crazy,” he said. They knew each other for over ten years, but their relationship began as a friendship. Benny first met Selena when she was younger, and he later worked with her on several projects, including her 2015 album Revival and their 2019 collaboration I Can’t Get Enough.

Recalling the moment Selena asked him out, Benny said: “She was like, ‘Oh, do you want to go out to dinner?’ I didn’t think much about it. I told her, “I’m going to this with my friends. Why don’t you come and then we’ll have dinner?”

The evening started with pre-dinner drinks and it wasn’t until Selena made a comment that Benny realized what was going on. “She said, ‘I’d wear something else for this date,’ and I was like, ‘Wait, what?’ Are we on a date?

The light-hearted misunderstanding didn’t stop the couple from forming a deeper connection. Although Selena had to leave early in the evening due to work, they met again two days later. “That’s when I thought, ‘I think she likes me,’” Benny shared. “I kissed her and the rest is history.”
Now the couple spends as much time as possible together. “We’re together every day,” Benny said, adding that Selena is not only his partner, but also his “best friend.”

They officially started dating in mid-2023, but their shared history and close bond made their relationship especially meaningful. Fans of both stars are thrilled to see their bond grow, and Benny’s story provides a glimpse into their dynamic.
