Yacht rescued in Guernsey after pier failure

Yacht rescued in Guernsey after pier failure

“Within two minutes, as the vessel approached the quay wall in large waves, they managed to wrap ropes around the boat and take control of it,” the department said.

“The marina and technical services staff were then able to tow the yacht to safety and secure the yacht with stronger lines and additional fenders before the weather deteriorated further.”

Duty harbor master Kieran Higgs said staff had demonstrated “all their skill and experience to get the vessel under control before it hit the wall.”

“The visiting yacht is now firmly anchored to the marina wall and is likely to be lifted out of the water as soon as the weather improves to assess her condition,” Mr Higgs said.

“At this stage it appears that the vessel only suffered minor damage, but it could have been much worse.

“The boat owner was understandably very shocked, but he also really appreciated the collective efforts of our staff to get to his boat on time.”
