Eight months after minors were attacked in Federal Hill, a Baltimore father says he didn’t get justice.

Back on St. Patrick’s Day, Val and his 8-year-old son were victims of an attempted carjacking. caught watching near the corner of Wheeling and Light streets. Two teens were arrested and taken to juvenile detention, Baltimore police said.

But Val now says the trial was a nightmare and only served to disillusion him with crime and the handling of cases.

“Even when it was identified and went through the system, no justice was done,” Val said.

According to the father, one of the two minors arrested, who is now 17 years old, admitted his guilt in court.

Val said the exact punishment the juvenile faced remains unclear to him.

“It’s in their protocol for this minor. Crime,” Val said. “And they may have, I didn’t get any confirmation about it, but was potentially placed on ankle monitoring.”

But just recently, Val said the restitution hearings he attended to recoup expenses incurred as a result of the crime left him stunned.

“The stolen items they were able to take were the keys to my cars, including the one they were trying to steal. I provided all receipts including the costs I had to pay to obtain new keys to operate my vehicle. Unfortunately, I was not cured. They didn’t give it to me,” Val said.

Val shared the receipts with FOX45 News.

Between the keys to the two cars and reprogramming costs, he said he’s looking at about $1,500.

Val said the judge ordered the juvenile to pay about one-third of that amount, with no additional costs imposed on the juvenile suspect’s parent, who he added was present at the hearing.

“$485.81,” Val responded when asked how much he was ordered to receive. “This order was made against a minor who I do not plan to pay. And although the mother was also present on the calls, there was no judgment entered against the mother or any liability on the part of the parent.”

The father said a second juvenile suspect charged in the case also pleaded guilty in court, but it was unclear what consequences, if any, he would face.

Val said he’s not sure if he’ll get any additional compensation and wonders if it’s even worth taking more time off work to get the job done.

“There is no justice. They don’t make me whole. I lost even more because I took a few days off from work. Thousands at the moment when I’m a victim. The system seems to have fallen behind. He seems to be defending the aggressors rather than the innocent victims and just the average Baltimorean. It’s truly a shame.”
